I'm Now Playing My Switch Vertically I'm Now Playing My Switch Vertically

I’ve played my Switch in TV mode, handheld mode and tabletop mode. Now I’ve got a game that lets me play it like I’m holding an oversized unwrapped candy bar. It’s great.

Here’s something you don’t usually see in the hype for big budget games: Ubisoft says the PvE/PvP Dark Zone regions in March’s The Division 2 will collectively be a third smaller than they were in the first game and the player count will be halved to 12. The Dark Zone could be desolate in the first game, but Ubisoft …

Assassin's Creed Odyssey Director Says 'We Missed The Mark' With Controversial DLC Relationship [Update] Assassin's Creed Odyssey Director Says 'We Missed The Mark' With Controversial DLC Relationship [Update]

A day after apologizing for surprising Assassin’s Creed Odyssey players with a mandatory in-game relationship that seemed to contradict the game’s pre-release promise to let players define their character’s own sexuality, the game’s creative director offered a fuller apology and explanation of what his team was trying…

The Division 2's story trailer shows a Washington, D.C. overrun by “ruthless hyenas,” “religious outcasts” and “depraved fascists.” Wasn’t this game supposed to be a work of fiction? Publisher Ubisoft is also saying the game’s private beta kicks off on February 7, a little over a month before its March 15 launch.

Let’s Hear It For Really Good Role-Playing Game Battle Music Let’s Hear It For Really Good Role-Playing Game Battle Music

I’ve got a song stuck in my head that’s somehow not getting old. A colleague recently wrote about a new Mario & Luigi remake, I dusted off an unfinished older Mario & Luigi game, and next thing I know, I’m on the subway and… am I bobbing my head to some boss battle music? Why, yes I am.

I Hit Assassin’s Creed Odyssey’s Original Level Cap Before Seeing Half The Map I Hit Assassin’s Creed Odyssey’s Original Level Cap Before Seeing Half The Map

Every time I play Ubisoft’s gargantuan Assassin’s Creed Odyssey I’m astounded at how much of it I have left. I’m also left startled by how different an experience I seem to have had from many other players.

All these Ubisoft games are connected, huh? We’ve seen that Assassin’s Creed is a game played in the world of Watch Dogs (and seems to co-exist in the same world as Watch Dogs). Now, in today’s new Division 2 prequel comic book, The Division: Extremis Malis, you can squint and see that people in that Ubisoft series…

Zelda II is back in the news thanks to Nintendo’s announcement that the game is coming to the Switch this month for subscribers of Nintendo’s online subscription service. Did you know that legendary game designer Shigeru Miyamoto has some regrets about how this game came together? We talked about it with him in 2013.

The Stories Behind Assassin's Creed Mercenaries Are Terrific, But Easily Missed The Stories Behind Assassin's Creed Mercenaries Are Terrific, But Easily Missed

You don’t need to know the backstory of Shoeless Ogarneos, a mercenary who may try to kill you in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, but the word in the game is that this ancient Greek killer-for-hire only wore bandages on his feet and “liked the red tint they had at the end of each day.”

The 102 Games I Played Last Year And The Ones I Recommend The 102 Games I Played Last Year And The Ones I Recommend

For 13 years, I’ve been listing the games I’ve played each year. This used to be a means for me to log how many games I finished each year. These days, I use it as a way to tally the number of games I played in the past year, recommend some favorites and see how fatherhood (year two of that complete!) and other life…

After A Year Of Free Updates, The Switch’s Kirby Game Is Finally Very Good After A Year Of Free Updates, The Switch’s Kirby Game Is Finally Very Good

Kirby Star Allies launched on Switch in March, and it was decent, but a significant drop in quality from 2016’s Kirby: Planet Robobot. Since then, Nintendo has given the game several significant updates. Combined, they have made Star Allies a vastly better game.

An Update On A Battlefield Trailer Quote An Update On A Battlefield Trailer Quote

A quote attributed to Kotaku in a launch trailer for Battlefield V was recently removed from that trailer by publisher EA at our company’s request after a miscommunication by both parties led to the inaccurate quote’s appearance.

I Just Unlocked A 2016 Nintendo Game In The Silliest Way Possible  I Just Unlocked A 2016 Nintendo Game In The Silliest Way Possible

I was recently reminded that Nintendo’s “My Nintendo” rewards program has a single reward that I want. I’ve wanted for two years, actually. I figured it was about time I claimed it, and if I had to click on a bunch of websites along the way, so be it.

The State Of The PS4 In 2018 The State Of The PS4 In 2018

The PlayStation 4 remains a top-flight gaming platform as it wraps up its fifth year and enters a 2019 sure to be full of PS5 rumors, interesting exclusive games, and the possible launch of the most-requested feature in PlayStation Network history.

We were disappointed that your dog companion in Far Cry 5 couldn’t ride in your car with you and instead ran behind. According to the official Twitter feed for the franchise, the dog in February’s Far Cry New Dawn will ride with you, as the game’s debut trailer last night teased.

Bungie Already Tweaks Newest Destiny 2 Expansion To Reduce Grind Bungie Already Tweaks Newest Destiny 2 Expansion To Reduce Grind

A day after releasing their game’s new Black Armory expansion, the creators of Destiny 2 are lowering the power level requirement to participate in the new content’s marquee feature, a series of weapon-based activities called Lost Forges. They’re also acknowledging that the requirement reduction is small but the best…

Looks Like A New Far Cry Will Be Announced Tomorrow

In what might be the most revealing teaser in gaming hype history, Ubisoft has just tossed up a trailer that spoils the end of Far Cry 5 (guess I should have finished that by now) and hypes a new Far Cry something or other coming to PS4, Xbox One and PC.

Former Dragon Age creative director Mike Laidlaw is now working at Ubisoft Quebec, the studio behind Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. In a studio blog post, it’s noted that Laidlaw had been consulting with Quebec on an unannounced project for the past nine months. Hmm.
